Buyer Guide · China Sourcing Support
China sourcing agent or independent supplier research? Start with the job you need done.
These models can overlap, but they solve different parts of a buyer's problem. A sourcing agent often supports execution across the purchasing process. Independent supplier research focuses on decision evidence before the buyer commits.
The key distinction
Do you need someone to run the process, or help you judge the decision?
A buyer that needs local supplier communication, RFQs, samples, order follow-up, and operational coordination may benefit from a sourcing agent or procurement partner. A buyer that already owns purchasing execution but needs an independent view of supplier candidates may need research, comparison, or verification instead.
Provider scope varies. “Sourcing agent” is not one standardized service model, so buyers should confirm exactly what is included, how the provider is paid, and whether supplier-side commissions or referral relationships exist.
China sourcing agent
Useful when the buyer needs execution support.
✓ Supplier outreach and day-to-day coordination
✓ RFQ collection and commercial follow-up
✓ Sample, order, logistics, or execution coordination depending on scope
✓ Local communication across a longer purchasing process
Independent supplier research
Useful when the buyer needs decision support.
✓ Independent supplier candidate research
✓ Structured supplier comparison on the same buyer criteria
✓ Evidence labeling and contradiction checks
✓ Targeted verification of material claims before a commitment
Ask these questions first
The commercial model matters as much as the service label.
Ask who the provider represents, how they are paid, whether they receive supplier commissions, what evidence they independently check, which activities are outsourced, and who retains the final supplier decision.
A low advertised service fee does not by itself reveal the provider's full commercial incentives. Likewise, an independent research fee does not replace execution services that a buyer may still need later.
Choose by decision stage
The same buyer may use different support models at different points in one sourcing project.
Need candidatesUse supplier research when the buyer brief is clear but the candidate set is weak or incomplete.
Have candidatesUse supplier comparison when two or more suppliers need to be normalized on the same decision basis.
One claim mattersUse supplier verification when a material claim remains uncertain before a sample, deposit, or order.
Need daily executionConsider a sourcing agent or procurement partner when supplier communication, RFQs, samples, orders, and follow-up need ongoing local ownership.
Need bothSeparate the roles where useful: independent decision support first, then execution support for the chosen path.
Why independence can matter
A comparison is easier to trust when incentives are visible.
For buyer-side supplier intelligence, Sephalis does not receive supplier commissions. The purpose is to keep the buyer requirement, available evidence, contradictions, and unknowns visible before the next commercial commitment.
When an agent is still the right answer
Decision support does not replace operational ownership.
If the buyer wants someone to negotiate continuously, coordinate samples, manage supplier follow-up, supervise orders, or own logistics execution, a properly scoped sourcing or procurement partner may be more suitable than a research-only service.

Service labels are not guarantees.
Buyers should evaluate the specific provider, scope, incentives, evidence standards, contractual responsibilities, and specialist capabilities required for the purchase. Legal, financial, certification, engineering, quality, laboratory, inspection, logistics, or customs needs may require separate qualified support.
