Buyer Guide · Supplier Research
A China supplier research checklist for global buyers.
Supplier research becomes useful when it reduces a real buyer decision to a smaller, better-documented candidate set. This checklist helps keep the search tied to fit, evidence, and the next action.
01 · Write the buyer brief first
Search quality depends on requirement quality.
Before opening directories, marketplaces, search engines, referrals, or trade-show lists, define what the supplier must actually support. Include the product, target market, quantity, timing, commercial constraints, quality expectations, and any non-negotiable requirements.
Research checklist
Not every field will be available at the first pass. Missing information should remain visible instead of being silently treated as acceptable.
✓ Product specification and acceptable alternatives
✓ Target quantity, MOQ range, and forecast if relevant
✓ Destination market and compliance constraints
✓ Required timing and sample deadline
✓ Supplier identity and stated business scope
✓ Product and manufacturing relevance
✓ Quotation basis, Incoterm, and payment terms
✓ Sample conditions, tooling, and packaging
✓ Lead time and capacity assumptions
✓ Evidence source and date
✓ Contradictions or unexplained mismatches
✓ Open questions and recommended next verification step
02 · Screen before deep research
Remove obvious non-fit candidates early.
Use the must-have requirements to eliminate suppliers that do not appear relevant on product scope, minimum order, geography, timing, compliance, or another critical constraint. Deep research is more valuable after the candidate set is narrow enough to inspect carefully.
03 · Preserve evidence quality
Record where each important statement came from.
Distinguish official records, supplier websites, supplier-provided documents, sales statements, third-party sources, direct observation, and inference. Add dates where freshness matters. If two sources conflict, preserve the contradiction instead of choosing the more convenient version.
04 · End with a decision-ready shortlist
The output should be a next-step tool, not a supplier database.
A strong research pass leaves the buyer with a smaller candidate set, comparable facts, clear evidence gaps, and a reasoned next action for each candidate. That next action may be a quotation clarification, sample, structured comparison, targeted verification, specialist review, or removal from consideration.

Guide boundary
Research is screening and decision support—not final supplier qualification.
A research shortlist does not guarantee quality, delivery, certification, commercial reliability, or legal standing. The level of subsequent verification should match the product, transaction value, and risk.
