China sourcing agent or direct factory? Choose by the work your team can actually absorb.
Buying direct can be efficient when the supplier relationship is simple and your team can manage the work. Sourcing support becomes more useful when supplier discovery, RFQs, comparisons, samples, follow-up, and multiple factories create an operating workload of their own.
The wrong question
“Which route is cheaper?” is incomplete unless the internal workload is counted.
Direct buying can remove an intermediary fee, but it also moves supplier search, communication, quotation comparison, sample coordination, document collection, problem chasing, and exception handling onto the buyer's own team.
The useful comparison is total operating effort, transparency, control, and the complexity of the sourcing job.
Direct factory may fit when
The sourcing path is stable and your team already knows how to run it.

✓ You have enough internal capacity to manage supplier communication
✓ The order is concentrated with one or a few stable suppliers
✓ Your team can compare quotations, documents, samples, and technical answers directly
✓ You have the experience to handle exceptions, delays, and follow-up yourself
Sourcing support may fit when
The coordination workload is larger than the purchase itself looks.
✓ You need to find or compare several supplier candidates
✓ You are sourcing multiple products or dealing with several factories
✓ Your team does not have China-side language, time-zone, or follow-up capacity
✓ Quotation collection and supplier communication are already consuming too much time
✓ You need temporary project capacity without hiring a full-time procurement employee
✓ You want one structured record of suppliers, quotes, samples, evidence, and open questions
A third option
You do not have to outsource the entire purchasing process.
A buyer can keep supplier selection, negotiation authority, payments, contracts, and final order decisions in-house while outsourcing only the research-heavy or coordination-heavy stages.
